New York Woman Hit 5 Parked Cars and a House While Drunk and Just Kept on Driving

A Sunday evening in Riverhead, New York. Kids inside. Neighbors going about their day. And then, tires screeching across multiple streets.

By the time it ended, one driver had hit five parked cars, reversed into a residential driveway, struck a basketball hoop, clipped a utility pole, and ruptured a gas tank. All in roughly three minutes.

Three Minutes, Six Impacts

At around 7:16 p.m. on May 25, Tammy Robinkoff, 60, struck the first parked car near 131 W. Main St. in Riverhead.

She did not stop.

She hit a second vehicle on Sunrise Avenue, turned onto Further Lane, and struck two more cars at 27 Further Lane. She reversed into the driveway, hit a basketball hoop, clipped the garage door and a utility pole, then crashed into a fifth parked SUV down the street.

That final hit ruptured the SUV’s gas tank. The Riverhead Fire Department responded. Further Lane was shut for about two hours.

Robinkoff was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center and arraigned on the DWI charge there just before 9 p.m.

“6 Coors Lights at the VFW”

Court records show Robinkoff told police she had been at the Riverhead VFW for two to three hours before driving and consumed 6 Coors Lights.

She now faces DWI and leaving the scene charges. The second charge matters because she did not panic after one mistake. She crashed, drove away, crashed again, and kept going through a residential street.

She is due in Riverhead Town Court on June 3.

The Part Being Overlooked

Two children who live at 27 Further Lane play in that driveway regularly. The older child is often shooting basketball at the very hoop Robinkoff’s car struck.

They happened to be inside.

Neighbors called it “mayhem” and “carnage.” When they went looking for official information, Police Chief Ed Frost declined to issue a press release and directed anyone seeking details to file FOIL requests.

According to RiverheadLOCAL’s full report, a Sunrise Avenue witness gave police a sworn statement confirming they saw Robinkoff behind the wheel hitting multiple vehicles before stopping.

Crashes into residential property are more common than people expect. A golf cart crashed into a Delaware home and sent one person to the hospital in a similarly sudden incident with no warning at all.

Why This Matters

No one was physically hurt that evening. That is the only good thing here.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, 11,904 people were killed in alcohol-impaired crashes in the US in 2024. One person every 44 minutes.

These incidents rarely make national news but follow the same pattern.

A 15-year-old speeding in Clearwater crashed into a home and a car, and a vehicle struck a mobile home on US Highway 271 in Smith County with zero warning. Residential streets absorb these quietly, until they do not.

The gas tank rupture alone could have ended this very differently. A spark. A child stepping outside at the wrong moment.

The difference between a close call and a tragedy is usually just timing.
